Sometime ago, my friend came to me with his problem. He needed to edit some video footage from the new Sony HXR-MC1P, which is a tiny camera to record HD 1080i in AVCHD format. However, when he log and transfer the footage to FCP 6.0 on MacBook Pro 2.33GHz with 2Gb RAM, and convert them to Prores 422, there is extreme interlacing and choppiness in the footage. His post-production fellow also faced the same problem. He had a Windows machine with Sony Vegas Pro, but the machine is too old and slow to run the AVCHD video. Read The Full Story

Two months after announcing its development, Sony has launched the NEX-VG10E – an E-mount camcorder that becomes the worlds’ first consumer-grade HD camcorder with interchangeable lenses. Although appearing under Sony’s Handycam brand, rather than Alpha, it retains a lot in common with the Alpha NEX series. It features the same 14.6MP Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor but is capable of recording 1080i video at a higher, 24mbps, bitrate. The NEX-VG10E also features an electronic viewfinder and ‘Quad Capsule Spatial Array Stereo Microphone’ that uses four microphone elements to provide better channel separation and cancel unwanted noise. In every other respect it is essentially a NEX 5, featuring the same user interface (though with more external controls) and both SD and MemoryStick storage. It will sold as kit with image-stabilised E18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS lens and will be available a suggested retail price of €2000 / $2000.
Full HD 1920×1080 video images are captured in AVCHDTM format at up to the maximum 24 Mbps bit rate for superlative detail and clarity. Unlike many digital still cameras including DSLR that support HD video, there’s virtually no restriction on continuous shooting time. Just slip in your choice of either Memory Stick PRO DuoTM or SD media cards and capture Full HD video and JPEG still images for easy transfer into your existing PC storage and editing environment.
• High Definition: AVCHD (1920 x 1080, 1440 x 1080) in .mts filename extension
• FX : 1920 x 1080i @ 24Mbps
• FH : 1920 x 1080i @ 16Mbps
• MP4: 1440 x 1080i @ 9Mbps Read The Full Story

Sony Handycam HDR-TG3E is a super small camera with full HD recording on Memory Stick in 2008. It includes 4GB and 10x optical zoom for capturing 1920×1080 and 1440×1080 videos. However, this camera does not include progressive recording mode, which indicates that the HD videos are 1080i. Even though it is compact camera, the audio is recorded in Dolby Digital 5.1ch. You can also take 2.3Mp stills while you are recording video footage. Read The Full Story
