I use Canopus Edius 4.6 to edit videos on Windows computer. It works great until I want to edit the AVCHD videos from my new camcorder. The new camcorder I recently purchased is Sony NEX-VG10 which supports interchangeable lens with DSLR. The videos are shot in 1920×1080 at 30p. However, the DSLR footage does not work on Edius 4.6.
After searching solutions to edit Sony NEX-VG10 video in Edius, it is said that the latest version Grass Valley Edius 6 supports AVCHD import. And there is only free upgrade from Edius 5 to Edius 6. When looking for alternative solution, I find Aunsoft Video Converter to handle the Sony NEX-VG10 1080/30p AVCHD videos. I am impressed with the conversion speed from AVCHD MTS to MPEG-2 for Edius 4.

If you face similar problem editing AVCHD video on Windows with applications like Canopus Edius Pro 4, Sony Vegas Movie Studio, Adobe Premiere CS3, just follow the step-by-step guide below to convert the AVCHD videos. Here I take Sony NEX-VG10 video on Windows XP as an example.
Step 1. Load Sony VG10 files to Aunsoft Video Converter.
After transferring .mts files from Sony NEX-VG10 camera to Windows XP computer hard drive disk, run Aunsoft Video Converter as the fast Sony NEX-VG10 video converter. Click the “Add” button to import the 1080p or 1080i AVCHD videos. Alternatively, you can drag and drop the .mts files to program UI for conversion.
Step 2. Choose HD MPG output format.
Click the “Format” option and navigate to HD Video > MPEG-2 HD Video(*.mpg) as output format. The Sony VG10 AVCHD converter will transcode 1080p MTS to MPG with 1920×1080 high resolution and 30fps for editing in Edius 4.61.

Step 3. Convert Sony VG10 Video to MPG for Edius 4.
Click the convert button under the preview window, and the Sony NEX-VG10 video converter will start the conversion from Sony AVCHD to MPEG for Edius 4.
When the conversion is done, just import the output HD .mpg files to Edius for editing with desired effects.
