I used Panasonic HDC-HS700 to record 1080p50 home movies, and would like to burn the video clips to DVD, keeping the original Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound. I tried Roxio Toast Titanium 10, MPEG Streamclip and VLC media player on my iMac, but none of them handle the DD5.1 sound. Via Google, I find Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac which was recommended to work and keep the surround souond.
After downloading the free trial and loading my Panasonic HS700 1080p MTS for conversion, it indeed keeps Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound from the MTS videos and converts MTS to MOV for playback on Mac. Even though iDVD does not support burning DVD with 5.1 surround sound, I have DVD Studio Pro from Final Cut Studio to work with Dolby Digital AC3 5.1-channel audio with versatile DVD mastering.

If you have AVCHD camcorder that record videos with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound like Panasonic HDC-TM700/HS70/SD700, Panasonic DMC-LX5, Sony HDR-CX550, Sony HDR-XR520, Sony NEX-VG10, Sony HDR-CX500/XR500 and so on, and would like to burn video to DVD with DD5.1 audio, just follow the step-by-step guide below with Panasonic HS700 as an example on Mac Snow Leopard.
Step 1. Load Panasonic video to Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac.
Run Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac as the top-notch burning Panasonic HS700 to DD5.1 DVD converter on Mac, and click the “Add” button to load 1080/50p .mts videos.
Step 2. Choose MOV output format.
Click the “Format” option and navigate to HD Video > H.264 HD Video(*.mov) as output format. The default format will convert Dolby Digital 5.1 audio to AAC 5.1 audio. If you would like to use DD 5.1 as output audio, just click the “Settings” button to change the audio codec to AC3 for Dolby Digital. And you may notice that the output audio channels option is set as 6 by default.

Step 3. Convert Panasonic HS700 MTS to MOV for DVD Studio Pro.
Click the convert button under the preview window, and the conversion from Panasonic HDC-HS700 MTS to MOV with DD 5.1 will start immediately.
After the conversion, you can burn DVD with 5.1 audio via DVD Studio Pro. Just import the output videos from Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac and you can create menus, chapters and titles for authoring DVD via DVD Studio Pro.
