Panasonic has released more than five different camcorders for 2010 in order to meet everyone’s budget needs. Panasonic updated the internal specs for its mid-range HD camcorder line. The full HD Panasonic HDC-SD60 features a larger, 1/4.1-inch CMOS sensor, and it includes a 25x optical zoom lens (up from 16x on last year’s models).

Design
The 35.7mm lens is capable of an impressive 25x optical zoom and an Intelligent Zoom function that goes all the way up to 35x. Power O.I.S. and Intelligent Auto with Face recognition combined with the other technical specs, provide a very useful design. The Powered O.I.S. is specifically meant for stabilizing images with lots of zoom or in situations that have lots of hand-shake. It will not correct major movements of the camera, but most minor shaking will be suppressed.
Media formats include an SD/ SDHC/ SDXC memory card; however, this camcorder lacks a hard drive built in so there is no extra storage. Recording formats are MPEG, AVCHD, and JPEC for still images. The sensor is MOS though it does not have the 3 stage design, which we will come back to in the performance section.

The lens type of the SD60 is also less than your typical camcorder from Panasonic to keep costs down. They are using the Panasonic lens rather than the Leica. The focus is auto and manual, as is the white balance. There is backlight compensation for the LCD monitor, which is 2.7 inches in width.
The Panasonic SD60 provides a two-channel microphone with stereo and zoom capabilities. This allows the user to get the tiniest sounds in a room and clear up the background noise. The speaker is typical of Panasonic’s design with the dynamic type found on all 2010 camcorders from Panasonic. Jacks built into the camcorder are HMDI and USB. Included accessories are the AC Adaptor, USB Cable, Stylus Pen, software, and rechargeable battery. The software is HD Writer AE 2.0 which is a common inclusion with Panasonic brands. As with all batteries you also have a lithium ion; this particular one works a minimum of 1790 mAh.
