We work in TV business dealing with a majority of SD and HD videos, and some productions use Sony HDR-XR520 camcorder model for capturing which produces AVCHD files with .mts file extension. Unfortunately they are not supported by our Non linear Editing Avid Media Composer.

It seems that we have no choice but converting these files to Avid friendly format, for example QuickTime MOV file. But we need to make sure our source files will have lowest quality loss during the transcoding. We actually downloaded 5 similar MTS converting tools and one turned out best for output MOV quality which is named Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter.
The problem is that we need to install the software in a corporative workstation where a lot of people use it. So we may need to purchase multiple licenses. We tried to contact Aunsoft Support consulting about multiple licenses and luckily for us, we get a reasonable discount for 5 licenses of Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter. FYI, I’m quite impressed by the customer service provided by the company, it’s certainly the best service I personally have met when ordering something online.
The software is very easy to use with its quite intuitive interface. All together three steps are needed if you plan to edit your output videos in NLEs like Avid Media Composer. First, import your AVCHD files to the program. Second, Choose output format from “Format” drop down list. At last, start AVCHD conversion. You can get your converted videos from destination folder.

Tips: If you want to get the best video quality, “HD Video” section are recommended, especially H.264 MOV & H.264 MP4; If you are looking for an AVCHD joiner, it’s the right choice for you. You can simply check “Merge into one file” to splice/combine all your imported MTS/M2TS clips into one file for your Avid.
