Sony’s new NEX-5 camera is coming

In early June, I traveled to San Francisco to attend the Apple World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC). Typically, I would take the EOS 5D with an assortment of lenses, but this time I opted to carry the Sony H5X (for video) and Canon S90 (photo) to do the shooting. typically snap about 500 photos a day with the EOS 5D, but on this trip of 20 days I shot less than 100 pictures in 20 days.
Sony’s NEX-5 camera hopes to change that by making use of a clever sensor that delivers near to DSLR quality results. The NEX-5 has a sensor that is 1.5 times bigger than that of micro four-thirds which brings it closer to that which you would find in a DSLR. This is important in terms of image quality because a bigger sensor will produce cleaner, less “noisy” images. The sensor is still small enough, however, for Sony to fit it inside the smallest interchangeable lens body available.
In fact other than the NEX-5s bizarre ergonomics, there is plenty to like about this camera. It is better than other micro-four thirds camera out there and smaller, too. It is, however, expensive, coming in at £549 if you pre-order on the Sony website – a similar price to an entry-level DSLR.
If you are looking to make a step up in your photography, then investing in a proper DSLR could be a better option. But for those who want more out of their compact but still want to retain size and portability, the NEX-5 is the best choice out there.
