When I see how a handful of Senate Republicans and a kennel of dogs may Blue demonizing the insurance option of public health as a tyrannical government takeover, when I see the elderly calls for the Government to keep its mitts disease when I see Obama Trade billion savings by negotiating prices with pharmaceutical companies for millions of Big Pharma-friendly administration ads – that’s when I pine for a shock as the Matrix when Neo learns that reality is an illusion.
The election of Barack Obama has offered any reason to believe that the fears of the country, lying in ads and shortcomings of the media do not correspond to the continuity of sense of the American people. Wow – the system works.
Not so fast.
It does not matter that 46 million uninsured Americans get, what counts is whether they re-elected.
When I hear the Republican Congress and cable gasbags doubt Obama’s natural-born citizen, I know they do not really believe the “birth argument, just as they do not really believe the argument for euthanasia. They are simply playing to the base.
The problem is that the base does not know that it’s being played.
For demagogues in Congress, that’s all a game, an act. They already have health insurance.
Bloviators to the media, it’s a play, a piece of political theater. Their work is not for want to cry, or really complicated to explain things, their job is to examine the performance politicos, and hold the attention of the public to remain through advertising.
If health care struggle has shown anything so far is how the membrane is porous between autonomy and self-deception. Other than the Hollywood tradition that the darkest hour is just before dawn, what evidence is there to believe that the country – as Obama said in his opening speech – has put away childish things ? Other than the President of the faith in bipartisanship and compromise, what reason is there to think that the Republicans do everything they can to destroy it?
This summer, prepare to be as ugly as any served by Newt Gingrich and Tom Delay. Karl Rove and Dick Cheney in May rather than make their choice, but their followers in front of lobbyist groups like Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks share the same DNA as the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and the people who have questioned, Bill Clinton.
